A native of Belgium, Julien Hucq is a creative member of the young jazz scene of New York where he has lived since 2012. Active as performer, composer, arranger and educator, Julien multiplies collaborations and partnerships.

We saw him playing alongside Calvin Hill, Gene Perla, John Betsch, George Schuller, Jeb Patton, Corcoran Holt, George Robert and scheduled at major NY jazz clubs and international festivals such as Minton’s, Seeds, IBeam, Flushing Town Hall, the Zinc Bar, Warsaw Jazz Days, Montreux Jazz Festival and Kinshasa Jazz Festival.

Last year he performed with his American quartet at the television show American Music Series at Brooklyn College- hosted by Randall Keith Horton, which was aired recently on CUNY TV and on KRCB (PBS affiliate).

Though rooted in the NY jazz music scene, Julien keeps a strong connection with Europe where he regularly tours: with his European quartet and trios, with the Parisian large ensemble Osiris, with British and Belgian big bands and with the Brooklyn based Hucq/ Duboule Quartet with which he both recorded and extensively toured in summer 2014 (Germany, France, Switzerland and Belgium).

Further to the recording of “Reunion”, his third album as leader (recorded in Paris in January 2015 with his European Quartet) and the presentation of his new music last autumn 2015 in Paris (Bab-Ilo), London (Jackdawn), Brussels (L’Archiduc) and recently at Minton’s (NYC), Julien keeps moving forward and is currently working on big band writing, on an upcoming recording with a string quartet this summer as well as preparing a next European tour this coming autumn.
