The Julien Hucq Trio/Quartet has toured extensively across Europe and the U.S., performing in prestigious venues such as Birdland (NY), Minton’s Playhouse (NY), Circulo de Bellas Artes (Madrid), B-Flat (Berlin), and Jackdaw (London). The ensemble has featured prominent band members and special guests, including Claudio Roditi, Calvin Hill, Michael Cochrane, John Betsch, Jean-Louis Rassinfosse, and Dré Pallemaerts. Notable appearances include performances at major festivals like Montreux Jazz Festival, Warsaw Jazz Days, Lyon Jazz Festival, and Kinshasa Jazz Festival.

Julien Hucq’s recording projects highlight collaborations with exceptional talents such as Georges Cables, Mickey Bass, Kenta Yonesaka, Claudio Roditi, Lonnie Plaxico, and Omar Hakim. His versatile work spans various genres and includes partnerships with artists like Janai Brugger, Selma Boragian, Soumitra Thakur, and Zhou Yi, showcasing his creative depth and global reach.

Julien has performed as part of the Claudio Roditi Quintet, the Calvin Hill Group, the Barry Harris Big Band, Steven Oquendo Latin Jazz Orchestra, the George Robert Orchestra, Conceptual Motion Orchestra, George Brandon Sextet, Osiris, Stephen Santoro Orchestra, Tom McGuire Quintet and many others.

He has shared the stage with world-class music figures including Tony Allen, Oghene Kologbo, Keziah Jones, Steve Nelson, Gene Perla, Marcus Mclaurine, Lonnie Plaxico, Dwayne “Cook” Broadnax, George Schuller, Steve Johns, Rodney Green, Corey Wilkes, Joseph Lepore, Benito Gonzalez, Corcoran Holt, Adam Aruda, Charles Goold and Egon.

Julien composes and arranges music of different genres commissioned by others. His recent engagements covered chamber music, straight-ahead jazz, bebop, latin jazz, funk, pop and dance for small and large ensembles. Written under contract, the music is tailored to the needs of the client.

Julien’s most recent commissioned projects have come from the likes of Vents d’Anches Quatuor, the Steven Oquendo Latin Jazz Orchestra, José Claussell Orchestra, Dominic Ntoumos & Big Band Theory, Charly Bil Swing Orchestra and Downtown Standards.

Julien received a Master of Arts degree in 2013 from the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College, City University of New York. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Conservatoire de Lausanne, in Switzerland, and his Diplôme d’Etudes Musicales from Conservatoire National de la Région de Paris, CNR, France.
